The Birth of a Solution
CIMAR (Centre for Infertility Managament & Assisted Reproduction), the first IVF centre of northern Kerala was launched in Sept. 1996 as a project of Edappal Hospitals (P) Ltd, Edappal. In fact, it was the infertility division of Obstetrics & Gynaecology department of this hospital who did pioneering work in endoscopy and related fields which was transformed into CIMAR, when the IVF facilities were added. Naturally CIMAR became the leader in infertility treatment in northern Kerala.
CIMAR acquired state level recognition when Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) embracing PESA, TESA, TESE and MESA were introduced here in 1997 for the first time in Kerala.
CIMAR further created history by giving birth to two lovely babies (twins) to a fortunate mother (who conceived through ICSI treatment here) on 28th Oct. '98. CIMAR was the first centre in the whole of India to produce a baby using Recombinant FSH (Recagon). CIMAR created one more historic moment when a 48 years old Postmenopausal (who ceased to have monthly periods) woman gave birth to a baby through the ICSI treatment using her husband's sperms and donor oocyte. Today CIMAR has an advanced genetic laboratory with computerised automated Karyotyping and FISH facilities which has further enhanced Fetal medicine department. For the first time in South India and second time in our country a healthy baby boy was born to a couple from Palakkad on 2001 June 26th with the help of PGD. These facilities for PGD is available only in very few countries around the world. This has given CIMAR a fixed place in international scenario.
Also a team of Fetal medicine experts, Geneticist and Neonatologist together give genetic counselling at CIMAR on a regular basis.
