In males with suboptimal semen parameters, semen is washed and highly motile sperms concentrated in the lab is inseminated into the wife’s uterus. This enhances the chances of sperm reaching the egg. This is done after confirming ovulation with USG. IUI might be repeated to be successful. However if semen is very bad, ICSI is the best option.
Donor Insemination
If a man's testes cannot produce sperms (testicular failure) the couple gets benefit from Donor Insemination.
In this procedure, healthy and intelligent voluntary donors are screened for any sexually transmitted diseases. Once all screening tests are negative they are recruited for donation and the samples are cryo preserved (kept frozen in liquid Nitrogen). Before giving it to the patient another batch of test is done to make doubly sure that samples are negative for sexually transmitted diseases.
Couple who cannot afford ICSI can also opt for donor insemination.
