Fetal blood sampling is used to diagnose, treat and monitor fetal problems at various stages of pregnancy. It detects genetic or chromosome abnormalities, finds and treats fetal anaemia or other issues in blood like Rh disease. It is also used to find fetal infection and medication to the uterus. Fetal blood is taken in different ways. Generally, it is performed after cleansing the mother’s abdomen with antiseptic, and insert a long thin needle into the mother’s uterus guided by ultrasound and fetal blood is extracted.
